Mission and History
Mission
Our mission it to foster positive youth development through sport. Youth runners are encouraged to challenge themselves and build resiliency through running.
Not only are youth building life skills and learning to create healthy habits, it is also important that the youth have fun through the process.
History
Oakland Cubs started as a small running class and turned into a team of multi-aged youth runners. Even though I was a runner, I did not think about youth running until my daughter asked to run. As a running coach I decided to see if there were any other kids we knew that would want to run, and then into the world of youth running the Cubs entered.
Our first year (2015) consisted of a few invitationals and road races, and we now participate in the USATF Pacific Association cross country meets and AAU and USATF-PA track and field events, along with other raod races and open meets.
Our team consist of recreational and competitive athletes, but all runners train in the same manner as to create a united team.
